  1. In analyzing Allison's work, I was able to pick up on certain visual cues and cohesive elements within the series of images. However, I was unable to discern or decide on exactly what her word might have been.

Pieces of the first image suggest harmony, freshness, vitality. The image of the couple is placed prominently in the middle of the collage, and overtop of the other images, signifying an element of love and/or companionship. However, the image of Gregor Mendel suggests that the word involves the study of genetics. It should be noted that the image of Mendel may not be recognized until he is labeled in the second collage.

The second collage repeats and expands upon the ideas of love and companionship with the use of multiple images showing affection. However, the reappearance of the Mendel image ties in genetics. That leads me to believe that reproduction could be the word of choice, as it would be the most obvious connection between love and genetics. This thought process is interrupted by the fact that many of the couples are younger. Hands repeating around the collage suggest togetherness or unification.

In the final collage, the romantic images are repeated. The trail mix element gains more importance in this collage, as it fills the entire background and stands out against the black and white images. When viewing the series of collages, the trail mix is an element that I had a hard time understanding and I was unable to deduce what its connection would be with the other images.

The artist did well with her organization of the compositions, and the cohesiveness between the collages. While each individual image can be given some meaning that ties in to the artist's goal, it is hard for the viewer to find the element that unifies the series into one final idea.

Given my best guess I would say the collage signifies vitality, as the images show things vital to human health and happiness. On a sidenote, this could mean that I completely blanked on my vocabulary or that I'm just really bad at pictionary...
